Green Juice

As I touched on in my post Is It February So Soon?, my main focus this month is to be on my overall health and well-being. I am much like any other 32 year old woman, I’m sure, in the sense that I want to improve my own general fitness and how I look in a bikini—not for any superficial reason, but for my own confidence and to know I’m looking after myself. Time passes quickly, and I want to live a long and healthy life—and to be able to enjoy it. Surely health is the first starting point at ensuring this.

In the past, I have been guilty of over-indulgence on a daily basis—chocolates and sweets, coffee, sugary drinks, take away Chinese food and other unhealthy meals—with a complete lack of exercise. Being young, and possibly also due to my DNA (who knows!), I’ve never put on weight in line with my poor diet and lack of physical activity, but looking like I look after myself on the outside doesn’t mean all is well on the inside. I realise my body (and, in turn, my life) will only be as good as the fuel I input.

So far in February, I have been suffering with a cold virus, which has turned into a nasty chest infection, and so my aim of keep-fit has been postponed until I am at least able to breathe properly! But regardless, I have focused on eating better food and taking my daily dose of turmeric. And there is green juice.

My daily green juice is something I tend to have on workout days but, as I’ve fallen behind with attending the gym, I haven’t had any since sometime in January. However, as I’m still feeling pretty under the weather and feel I could really benefit from the additional nutrients, I’ve just made some for my lunch, which I can have whilst working my way through a huge editing contract. This time, I have used 4 stalks of celery, two small apples, half a lemon and a large cucumber. I absolutely love it; it’s almost like I can feel the benefits of its goodness with every sip.

For me, improving my health and fitness requires lots of little steps rather than a huge, dramatic change (which would guarantee me nothing but failure!). For now, until my chest infection is gone, green juice along with a teaspoon of turmeric each day will suffice. Hopefully Monday will bring Freeletics but, for now, baby steps is far better than none!
